Tracking air pollution worldwide
This page tracks air quality (AQI) and concentrations of fine particles PM2.5, PM10 and the gases O₃, NO₂, SO₂ and CO for provinces and cities worldwide. Air pollution — especially PM2.5 — is a leading cause of respiratory and heart disease in large cities.
Air quality FAQ
What is the air quality today?
Choose a country and province/area above (or tap “My location”) to see the US EPA AQI and current PM2.5, PM10, O₃, NO₂, SO₂ and CO, with health advice for each level.
What is AQI and what level is safe?
AQI (Air Quality Index) converts pollutant concentrations to a 0–500 scale: 0–50 Good, 51–100 Moderate, 101–150 Unhealthy for sensitive groups, 151–200 Unhealthy, 201–300 Very unhealthy, over 300 Hazardous. Below 100 is fairly safe for most people.
What is PM2.5 and why is it dangerous?
PM2.5 are particles ≤ 2.5 micrometres across, small enough to reach deep into the lungs and blood, causing respiratory and heart disease and worsening asthma. It is the most harmful pollutant in large cities.
What should I do when the air is polluted?
Limit time and exercise outdoors when AQI is high; wear a mask rated for fine particles; close windows and use an air purifier; take special care of children, older people and those with respiratory illness.
Where does the data come from?
Air quality data comes from the CAMS model (Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service) via Open-Meteo, updated several times a day for every location worldwide.
